What is Feldenkrais?

Feldenkrais, for those who have heard the name but are not aware, is a new kind of body-awareness treatment for all kinds of people. It can help the following types of person:

1) The athlete who wishes to learn more about his/her body.

2) The recovering person: people who have been injured and are looking for other treatments to work alongside their rehabilitation.

3) The person who wishes to gain better understanding of their body, for whatever reason.

The basic thread is that through the Feldenkrais method, people can understand how their body works. That’s to say that after a few sessions they will know why they have been aching in a certain why, and what they can do to better avoid this happening in the future.

In other words, it’s extremely useful. And it isn’t just some wishy-washy technique. The very basics of it are grounded in conventional physiotherapy. This means that when you start the process, you know that you are getting real therapy, rather than just some vague promise that it might help.

Sessions typically begin very gently, with the practitioner moving the patients body in certain ways to gain better knowledge of how the joints and organs interact with one another.
